Beginning of Another Semester

I'm getting ready to start another semester as an assistant professor, and it's getting closer and closer to the year I go up for tenure. I received a grant this semester to work on research, so it's my first experience working only on research and not teaching any classes during the semester. Classes haven't started yet, we have a few more days of freedom. As much as I'd like to get ahead on my research, I'm having a hard time getting motivated and every day wake up wanting to enjoy my last few days of break instead of working. I have been spending a lot of time on advising, mainly the particularly difficult students who wait until the last minute to figure out what classes they need to register for in order to graduate. It's been very frustrating. Last night I watched "The Kids Are All Right" with a friend and we both really enjoyed it. I've been trying to be as social as I can because once the semester starts people are less and less willing to hang out.
